Second screen refers to the use of a smartphone, tablet computer or computer that audiences use while watching television.
The second screen expression is a consequence of media multitasking by content consumers resulting from increased ownership of smartphones and other connected devices.
This multitasking is changing the way audience watches television.
Broadcasters aim to enable consumers to use the second screen as a partner device to compliment traditional viewing by providing, for example, games statistics or replays during a live sports broadcast.
